Examples of IT multi-sites realisations

Example of IT infrastructure with 3 Keloïs platforms.

Case Study :

An engineering company uses on a daily basis a dedicated web-application and files sharing functionalities. This company has 2 different geographical locations.

Initial Situation

The situation audited by Keloïs was the following :

  • The main server with the web-application and files was located on location A
  • Users from location B could access the web application through a VPN between the 2 locations

Example of realisation (situation before)

Problems were the following :

  • Some desktops were dedicated to specific tasks (like email reading, ...)
  • Every user was declared on each desktop
  • Multiple reboots were done for main server (2 or 3 times per month)
  • If location A had a network outage, location B was unable to work
  • If main server of location A crashed, neither location A and B were able to work

Solution made by Keloïs

After doing an IT audit for the company, Keloïs recommended the following architecture :

  • Out-source the main server as a Keloïs platform within a datacenter
  • Install 2 light Keloïs platforms as redundant servers for users authentication

Example of realisation (situation after)

With this new architecture, the customer benefits from the following  :

  • Central management of all users
  • Automatic push of users information to the light servers
  • Each desktop usable by anyone
  • If an outage occurs to one of the 2 locations, the other one is not impacted at all
  • No reboot of the main server handling the web application after more than one year
  • Servers are rebooted only during maintenance phases

In addition to these positive results, the customer discovers new working methods thanks to calendar sharing, with an important usage of the instant messenger which significantly improves the collaborative work between the 2 distant locations.
